THE XO HOUSE
The XO House seeks to capture nature’s tranquility by establishing direct connections to the outdoors throughout and around the home. The home’s name is a playful nod to the childhood tic-tac-toe game, reflected in its volumetric design. Long bars on the first and second levels form a loose grid, with nature pockets occupying the ‘O’ spaces. These nature pockets—a courtyard, various patios, an elevated terrace, and a sunken conversation pit—vary in elevation and privacy, and all promote connection with nature throughout and around the home.

The Grid
The first floor is organized into two long programmatic bars that run the length of the site. The main gathering spaces are positioned toward the rear for a quieter setting.
On the second floor, the bars span the property, maximizing views and access to the level side of the lot.
Connection with Nature
Nature pockets infill the grid and enhance the home’s connection to the landscape in different ways.
