Project Feature: The XO House

The name "XO House" pays homage to the beloved childhood game of tic-tac-toe, with its playful design reflected in the home’s volumetric layout. The first and second levels are organized into long linear bars, forming a loose grid. Within this grid, nature pockets—courtyards, patios, an elevated terrace, and a sunken conversation pit—occupy the "O" spaces. Each pocket varies in elevation and privacy, offering unique opportunities to interact with the landscape throughout the property. Keep reading to see what we mean!

The XO House seeks to capture nature’s tranquility by establishing direct connections to the outdoors, both throughout the home and around it. On the first floor, two long programmatic bars run the length of the site, positioning gathering spaces toward the rear of the property for enhanced privacy and serenity. The second floor spans the width of the property, maximizing access to views and creating a harmonious relationship with the level side of the lot.

These design decisions make the XO House more than just a luxury residence—it’s a space where the indoors and outdoors coexist in perfect balance.

Nature Pockets: The Heart of the XO House

One of the defining features of this luxury residential architecture project is the integration of nature pockets. These thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces not only enhance the home’s visual appeal but also enrich the living experience by promoting a connection with the landscape. From quiet courtyards to vibrant terraces, each nature pocket invites residents and guests alike to enjoy the calm beauty of the surrounding environment.

The sunken conversation pit, for example, creates an intimate gathering space, while the elevated terrace offers panoramic views of the property. These details highlight how the XO House is designed to embrace the unique qualities of its Summit, NJ location.

Located in the heart of Summit, NJ, the XO House reflects the sophistication and modernity that high-end homeowners seek in this sought-after area. With its innovative use of space and emphasis on nature, this project exemplifies the best of luxury residential architecture in the region.

For those inspired by the XO House, Space & Mark offers personalized architectural and residential interior design services, transforming homes into one-of-a-kind retreats tailored to your lifestyle.
